Gulf Arabs agree to form joint military force

Gulf Arab states in the world's top oil-exporting region have agreed to create a joint force for quick intervention to address security threats, a senior Gulf official said on Tuesday.

The force would intervene in situations similar to an incursion into Saudi Arabia by Yemeni Shi'ite rebels earlier this year, the secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council Abdul-Rahman al-Attiya said.

The six-nation bloc is located across the Gulf from Iran and includes the world's top oil exporter Saudi Arabia.
