Ghazi Hamad, spokesman for Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniyeh, has dismissed reports that he has resigned.
"I have not resigned from my position as spokesman for Ismail Haniyeh and I still hold that job," Hamad said on Friday.
Hamad told the Palestinian news agency, Maan, that reports published in the Arab and Israeli media were false.
"At this time I am still working in the office of the premier, Haniyeh," he said. "If I haven't been seen in public recently, because the positions of government in Gaza overlaps with that of Hamas, which already has its own spokesman."
Hamad was reported to have resigned from his position on Friday because of differences over the organisation's refusal to negotiate a deal with Fatah.
It was also suggested he had not appeared in public since Hamas had assumed control of the Gaza Strip.
Sources close to Haniyeh said that Hamad had left his position because of differences between him and the Palestinian premier.
Hamad has served as Haniyeh's spokesman since the Hamas prime minister was appointed
Ghazi Hamad is a long-term member of Hamas and the former editor-in-chief of the Hamas weekly Ar-Risala.
He was imprisoned by the PA under the Fatah administration and spent five years in detention in Israel for activities related to Hamas.
