Turkey witnessed in the past couple of days an unusual heat wave where temperature soared to 45 degrees Celsius.
The governor's office in Istanbul urged seniors and handicapped not to be exposed to sunlight to spare themselves sunstroke, and advised civilians not to come out of their homes between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., and venture out only for necessities, the "NTV" News Network reported on its website.
The Turkish weather forecast station forecasted that the successively, high temperatures will culminate in the next three days.
The heat resulted in fires destroying 40 hectares of forest lands in the southeast of the country, the station reported.
