Cold weather and heavy snow fall brought daily almost to a standstill in rural parts of Turkey, closing down village roads as well as inter-city routes in country's eastern and central regions.



Because of heavy snow fall last night, 383 secondary road are closed in Erzurum, as well as 161 in Bingöl, 33 in Ardahan, 180 in Erzincan, 39 in Kars, 100 in Muş and 240 in Tunceli.



Avalanche twice hit on Thursday a highway connecting the eastern province of Hakkari to the Cukurca town. Several vehicles were trapped in between two huge piles of snow debris. Teams were exerting efforts to remove the snow and rescue the vehicles.

Around Van, Bitlis, Hakkari and Ağrı, 926 secondary road are also still closed.



There have been raports on many trafic accidents in the region. Many vehicles have been stuck on the snow-covered roads for hours.

Officials are trying to open all roads but continuous snow fall effects the work.



Meterology warned for snow and bitterly cold wind chills continue today. Officials said tempatures were down to minus 8 in Erzurum and minus 5 in Kars.

Snow density reaches 45 cm in Ağrı city center.



Bad weather conditions also paralyze daily life in eastern Blacksea region.

Ovit mountain pass between Rize to Erzurum is closed because of heavy snowstorm.

Snow density on the mountain pass reached one meters in some areas.



In addition, snowstorm also damaged power lines, some districts around Torul don`t have electricity and water since last night.

Meterology officials said that conditions will improve later today as the snow diminish and the temperatures rise.

Snowfall also caused power blackouts in more than 100 villages in Sivas province and in Kayseri province blizzard
