Hijacked British tanker in Somalia has 3 Turkish crew

There are three Turkish sailors among the 26 crew members, non-British, on board a British tanker hijacked by Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden, Turkish officials said on Thursday.

The 8,000-ton St James Park, a chemicals tanker on its way to Thailand from Spain, was seized by pirates on Tuesday.

The UK-flagged ship is operated by an Israeli company. Pirates have not yet made any contact with the Israeli company for ransom, officials said.

There is no information about the fate of sailors from Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Philippines, Poland, Georgia, India and Turkey, officials said.

Hostages captured by pirates usually have to wait for two to three months for ship owners to pay the ransom and secure their freedom, officials added.
