The Hong Kong government Tuesday announced a by-election to fill the seat of an outspoken pro-Beijing party leader who died earlier this month.
The by-election for the seat of Ma Lik, former leader of the territory's Democratic Alliance Party, will be held on December 2, a government statement said.
Ma, a member of China's standing committee of the National People's Congress, died of cancer on August 8 at the age of 55. President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao paid tribute to him.
