India is now among the few countries in the world to develop a submarine-launched supersonic missile.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Indian Parliament) at Delhi Wednesday, India's Defence Minister A K Antony said that the submarine-launched version of 'Brahmos' supersonic cruise missile was ready.
He said trials of the missile were awaiting the necessary platform, which would be be finalised by the Indian Navy soon.
India has urged Russia to loan submarines to carry out test trials of the underwater launched version of the Brahmos missile. The trials can be carried out in Russian waters as well.
The Minister said the work on the air launched version of the Brahmos was currently in progress and efforts were being made to integrate the missile to be launched from both Air Force's SU-30 MKI fighters and Navy's IL-38 maritime reconnaissance planes.
