Indian President Pratibha Patil formally welcomed Turkish President Abdullah Gul in New Delhi on Tuesday, Anadolu news agency said on Tuesday.
Following the formal ceremony, Gul told reporters that during his visit, he hoped to contribute to Turkey and India to discover each other again.
"This process has already started," said Gul adding that he arrived in India to speed-up this process.
Noting that Turkey and India were democratic, secular and free-market economy countries, Gul said that both countries took place in a strategic location in their own regions.
Gul added that political relations between the two countries were good.
Gul also said that there was a big potential between Turkey and India to develop economic relations, and Turkey would use this potential.
