Indonesia will hold separate parliamentary and presidential elections in 2009.
No date has been set for the presidential poll which along with the parliamentary elections are held every five years.
"We declare that we are ready to organise the 2009 elections," commission chairman Abdul Hafiz Anshary told a news conference.
Indonesia held the country's first direct presidential election in 2004, which brought former general Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to power.
The country has introduced a series of electoral reforms since the downfall of autocratic President Suharto in 1998. Suharto died in January at 86.
