Indonesian Muslims send humanitarian aid to Gaza

A number of Islamic organizations in Indonesia have dispatched humanitarian aid to Gaza, worth USD 200,000, where the Israeli offensive in the Strip entered its sixth day.

Indonesian News agency, Bernama, quoted Chairman of "Mohammadiya" institution Deen Shamseddin as saying that the local Islamic institutions would not only condemn the Israeli offensive, but would also send humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The aid comprises food, clothes, medical equipment, as well as medical teams, he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of "Nahdhat Al-Olama" institution Mashkori Abdullah stated that sending humanitarian aid to Palestine was an obligation of Muslim societies.

In an Islamic forum, held to celebrate the new Islamic year, a number of Islamic scholars discussed the importance of aiding Palestinians in their plight.

The Indonesian government had condemned the Israeli military operations on residential areas in Gaza, considering it a heinous and inhuman crime. It called for halting the attacks on Gaza, and sending supplies to help casualties.

Indonesian students organized demonstrations in most universities for the past two days, in an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
