Former President Mohammad Khatami will announce on Sunday he will run for the presidency again in the June election, political allies said.
"We convinced him and he is going to announce it," one of the close political allies told Reuters.
Two other allies of the president confirmed that the announcement would be on Sunday at a meeting of a pro-reform political grouping that they were attending.
U.S. President Barack Obama has offered a new U.S. approach to engage Iran.
