Iran's talks with West to start in early October: Report

Iran and world powers involved in efforts to resolve a row over Tehran's nuclear programme will start talks in early October, state-run Press TV reported on Monday.

Iran's ISNA news agency said European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Iranian chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili had agreed to meet on Oct. 1, but that the venue had not yet been decided.

Iran last week handed over a package of proposals to six world powers, including the United States.

The Islamic Republic has maintained its position that its nuclear programme is for civil energy uses, rejecting Western accusations.

However, the White House insisted Saturday that international talks with Iran should focus on the country's nuclear program.

But, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad repeated its position on Sunday, saying Iran will not negotiate about its nuclear rights.
