Also, Saadettin Ergec, the chairman of the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITF), expressed his wish on Monday that the United Nations (UN) should ensure security in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk.

Ergec told AA correspondent that some demonstrators walked to the ITF office after they staged a protest march in Kirkuk.

"They wounded some officials in the office, including the head of the security personnel, and they set ablaze vehicles," Ergec said.

Ergec said that the demonstrators later attacked the Turkmeneli tv station, and told the AA that police did not intervene in the demonstrators.

"Those who came to our office were there to kill me," Ergec also said.

Ergec said that there were some casualties but said he did not know how many were wounded since he was in Baghdad right now.
