Today's Zaman reported "Internal disputes within the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITC) have reached a level at which Turkey's efforts to address the problems have not been yielding results, Iraqi Kurdish news reports have said."
"The Turkish government is desperate to ease tensions within the front," newspaper Aso, funded by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani's Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), reported, noting that a Turkmen delegation was currently in Turkey upon invitation by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
ITC President Saadettin Ergeç arrived in Ankara earlier this month, but no official statement as to whether he had contacts with Turkish diplomats have been made by the ministry.
"Turkey is expected to announce a new political organization that embraces all Turkmens; as a result, the Iraqi Turkmen Front will be dismantled. The new organization will have a new name and political agenda to better activate the role of Turkmen in Iraq and Kirkuk in particular," the newspaper said.
The report was not confirmed or denied by Ankara, as officials at the Turkish Foreign Ministry were not reachable as of yesterday afternoon.
