Israel attacks Gaza with air bombing

Israel launched air strikes in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday striking tunnels along the border with Egypt and an abandoned building.

There were no immediate reports of injuries from the bombings witnesses said were carried out by Israeli air force fighter jets at an abandoned airport and on tunnels Palestinians see "lifeline" under years of Israel siege.

Israel's devastating offensive a year ago killed more than 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis including three civilians were also killed.

In a separate development, an Arab citizen of Israel who crossed illegally into the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip was returned to Israel on Wednesday.

Palestinian witnesses said Hamas security forces had taken the 22-year-old man into custody after he climbed over Israel's frontier fence into the Gaza Strip on Tuesday. He was described by his family as mentally unstable.

An Israeli military spokesman said the man was returned after Israeli authorities asked Palestinian officials loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction to seek his release.

Israel closes all but one of Gaza's border crossings, the Rafah terminal with Egypt, which Cairo keeps closed, drawing anger with people.
