Turkish state minister for foreign trade said Israeli attacks had forced a project initiated by a Turkish chambers union to come to a halt as Gaza attacks also shelved Turkey's mediation efforts for indirect peace talks between Israel and Syria.
"Projects that would otherwise contribute to the settlement of peace and prosperity will of course be postponed or delayed at a time of such ferocity," Kursad Tumen told the AA.
Turkey's Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges has launched an "Industry Project for Peace" in January 2006 to revive a Palestinian free trade zone.
"Our goal is to create an environment where peace and tranquility can be felt. We have free trade agreements both with Palestine and Israel, but disturbances such as this one deal a blow on trade," Tuzmen said.
"Turkey will still do anything in its capacity for peace. We would like to see that Palestine, Israel and other regional countries enjoyed a peaceful atmosphere," he said.
