Israeli Special Forces killed a senior Palestinian activist in his home in occupied West Bank on Thursday morning in an assassination operation.
Ala Ad-Din Abu Ar-Roub was an Islamic Jihad leader in the West Bank town of Qabatiya, near Jenin.
Israeli special forces, not in uniform, opened fire on Alaa' Abu Rab's house after surrounding it, witnesses told KUNA, adding that Israeli forces prevented Abu Rab's family from taking him to hospital as he bled to death.
Witnesses said Israeli forces stormed the house, shot Ar-Roub and then seized the body, keeping it away from his family, who attempted to resuscitate him. Israeli forces returned later and handed the body over to the Red Crescent service in Jenin, which transported it to Khalil Suleiman Hospital. Doctors at the hospital said the man had been shot three times in the head and chest.
Witnesses said Israeli forces also attacked the family, forcing them to leave the house.
Israeli forces meanwhile say they found weapons and ammunitions in Abu Rab's house, and that they returned fire, as Abu Rab first fired at them, according to an Israeli Army spokesman.
