The Israel Defense Forces (IDF)is planning to open one of its most secret hi-tech courses to teenage Jews abroad, in an effort to enhance its technological capabilities, the Jerusalem Post reported on Monday.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF)is planning to open one of its most secret hi-tech courses to teenage Jews abroad, in an effort to enhance its technological capabilities, the Jerusalem Post reported on Monday.

The program is the longest course in the IDF, said the report, adding that the participants are chosen from a pool of highly-motivated youth who specialize in hard sciences such as physics and mathematics.

The soldiers chosen for the program will undergo more than three years of training, during which they will receive a degree in both physics and mathematics, and then join the Defense Ministry's Research and Development Directorate or highly-classified units in the air force, said the daily.

IDF officials responsible for the human resource affairs was quoted by the daily as saying that the army is expected to start recruiting Jewish youth abroad within six months.

According to the daily, this program is one of the IDF's most prestigious programs, which requires a very high security clearance. Prospective recruits from abroad will have to pass astringent security check to participate.
