Israeli envoy in Egypt to discuss Hamas ceasefire offer
Israeli Defence Ministry official arrived in Cairo for talks to advance prospects for a truce between the Jewish State and Hamas to end Israeli offensive in Gaza Strip.
Israeli Defence Ministry official Amos Gilad arrived in Cairo on Friday for talks to advance prospects for a truce between the Jewish State and the Islamist movement Hamas to end Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.
Egyptian airport officials said that Gilad, Egypt's main contact on the Israeli side in the mostly secret talks, had arrived from Tel Aviv and was expected to stay in Egypt for several hours. Gilad held similar talks in Cairo on Thursday.
Israel said its Gaza offensive could be "in the final act" on Friday as it despatched envoys to discuss truce terms after Hamas made a ceasefire offer to end three weeks of fighting that has killed more than 1,100 people.
