A mortar shell attack near an Istanbul municipality building which reportedly injured three people had targeted nearby army barracks, security sources were reported as saying by broadcaster NTV on Thursday.
The attack comes a week after two bombs in an Istanbul neighbourhood killed 17 people.
The mortar shells fired in the attack were initially thought to have been grenades.
The previous reports said several hand grenades were thrown at an Istanbul municipality building in Uskudar district on the Asian side of Istanbul.
Three people were slightly injured in the explosions in Uskudar district on the Asian side of Istanbul.
Istanbul Police Chief Celalettin Cerrah visited the scene of the explosions.
He told reporters that security forces were trying to find out the cause of the blasts.
"Three workers were slightly injured in the explosions. None of them are in critical condition," Cerrah said.
Mehmet Cakir, mayor of the district, told the A.A that an explosion occurred in a rubbish bin and two others in a nearby graveyard.
Cakir said that there was not any immediate reports of casualties but the blast caused minor damage to the building and some vehicles in the parking lot.
Police are searching for two assailants who were seen escaping from the scene with a motorcycle after the blast.
