Magistrates in Milan on Thursday issued arrest warrants against nine Tunisian nationals accused of helping terrorists in North Africa, the Ansa news agency reported.
The charges brought against the suspects include terrorism, abetting illegal immigration, forgery and drug trafficking.
Anti-terrorism prosecutor Elio Ramondini said the suspects provided financial and logistical support to the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat in Maghreb.
The exact number of arrests was not immediately known.
The police planned to provide further details in a press conference taking place later on Thursday.
