Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said Monday Turkey's European Union (EU) membership is important not only for the EU but also for the unity of the Mediterranean region.
Speaking at the 6th Europe-Mediterranean Conference in Milano, Frattini stressed that "the EU would score a political goal with Turkey's membership. This matter is important for the EU and the Mediterranean region."
Implying that certain countries like France have thoughts different than others on Turkey's membership, Frattini said that Turkey's membership is a matter to be settled by the EU.
