Jail wall falls after Peruvian quake, inmates flee
The strong 7.5 magnitute earthquake in Peru brought down a prison wall, allowing 680 inmates to flee in the Peruvian town of Chinca, the National Penitentiary Institute (Inpe) said Thursday.

Only 29 of the prisoners decided to remain in the prison after the wall collapsed, the Inpe said. The authorities said prisoners did not run away in the city of Ica, where the jail also suffered damage.

At least 350 people died and more than 1,000 others were injured in a quake on Wednesday, which particularly affected the towns of Ica, Pisco and Chincha.
