Japan, Australia, U.S. summit set for Sept. 8 in Sydney

Japan, Australia and the United States are set to hold the first trilateral meeting of their leaders on Sept. 8 on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum summit in Sydney, a Japanese Foreign Ministry source said Saturday.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Australian Prime Minister John Howard and U.S. President George W. Bush "are expected to reaffirm unity in dealing with North Korea, Iraq and other issues" in the brief meeting over breakfast on the first day of the two-day annual APEC summit, the source said.

Abe intends to exchange views with Howard and Bush on promoting a strategic dialogue involving the three countries and India, the source said.
