Japan selected a Kashmiri professor for the sixth Kasumiguara International for his research work on developing geoinformatic techniques used in pollution studies of Kashmir lakes.

Shakil A Romshoo, a professor in department of Geology and Geophysics in Kashmir University, would be awarded at a ceremony during the 13th world lake conference being organised by international lakes environment foundation in China from November 1-5, spokesman of the university Showkat Shafi said.

He said the research technique developed quantifies and pinpoints the sources of pollution from the catchment areas to the lakes and wetlands.

The award carries a citation and a cash reward of 250,000 in Japanese currency, the spokesman said quoting the communique received from the Japan government.

Dr. Romshoo has also been invited to deliver a keynote speech at the Conference.
