The Jordanian health authorities on Sunday imposed precautionary measures against Iraqis entering the country following the outbreak of the epidemic in northern Iraq.

"We have started testing all Iraqis to ensure that they did not contract the disease before allowing them to enter Jordanian territory," Director of Ruweished Hospital near the Iraqi-Jordanian border, Dr Mussa Abu Aqoula, was quoted as saying by the official Petra news agency.

In the past two weeks, six people reportedly died of cholera in northern Iraq's Kurdish province, as health authorities there treated some 2,000 suspected cases.
