Jordan Islamists: Cheney's visit 'bad omen' for Mideast
The Islamic Action Front (IAF), Jordan's biggest political party, on Wednesday blasted the current visits to the Middle East by US officials as a "bad omen" and predicted a deterioration of the situation in the region as a result of these "provocative trips".

The remark by IAF Deputy Secretary General Rhayyel Gharaibeh referred to the visits to the region by US Vice President Dick Cheney and the Republican nominee-in-waiting for the US presidential elections Sen. John McCain.

He urged Arab states not to respond to Cheney's call on them to send ambassadors to Iraq, saying the US administration of President George W Bush wanted "false witnesses for a historical crime that led to the destruction of an Arab country".

Gharaibeh charged that both Cheney and McCain were "trying to enhance the chances of the Republican Party in the forthcoming presidential elections through the lie of achieving progress in Iraq and to mobilize (countries of the region) against Iran".
