"We have determined that the general elections can be held on July 22nd," Higher Board of Election (YSK) Chairman Muammer Aydin said on Wednesday.

"We have determined that the general elections can be held on July 22nd," Higher Board of Election (YSK) Chairman Muammer Aydin said on Wednesday.

Parliamentary Constitutional Committee convened to debate the motion on holding the general elections on June 24th, 2007.

Aydin informed the committee on their work to set a date for the general elections to be held earlier than scheduled. Stating that YSK worked on the matter and prepared a timetable, Aydin noted, "according to the timetable, we determined that the general elections can be held on July 22nd."

Proposed adopted

Turkish Parliamentary Constitutional Committee adopted a proposal (made by Higher Board of Election-YSK) on holding the general elections on July 22nd, 2007.

The motion on holding the general elections on June 24th, 2007 was debated in the meeting of the committee which convened under the chairmanship of Justice and Development (AK) Party Istanbul deputy Burhan Kuzu.

The committee approved the proposal on holding the general elections (to be held earlier than scheduled) on July 22nd, 2007.
