Kenya's President Mwai Kibaki officially announced his bid for a second term in office in elections this December under a new allied party, the independent Daily Nation reported Monday.
"We have decided to form an alliance of political parties who believe that we should give highest priority to the welfare of individual Kenyans, peace, unity and the development of our country," said the septuagenarian.
Kibaki was swept to power in 2002 by an electorate fed up with the notoriously corrupt government of former president, Daniel arap Moi, who ruled for 24 years.
He is set to come up against popular presidential candidate Raila Odinga, of the Orange Democratic Movement, and Kalonzo Musyoka, of the Orange Democratic Movement Kenya.
