The money was given in appreciation to the county for hosting the UAE Technical Training Project, based in Bexhill-on-Sea, a coastal town of East Sussex. The project director announced the donation during a graduation ceremony held yesterday at the project centre for a group of 11 military technicians.
The Technical Training Project is an embodiment of Shaikh Khalifa's vision to promote cultural understanding, dialogue and tolerance, the project director said. He said the project was initiated in the 1990s beginning with a first batch of 200 students and has now been developed into a full-fledged UAE-UK partnership
"The new friendship will definitely provide substantial momentum to the long-standing relations between the two countries," he added.
The announcement came ahead of Shaikh Khalifa's visit to Syria, where he will hold talks with President Bashar Al Assad. The visit tomorrow marks the beginning of a three-nation tour for the President, including Algeria and France.
