Kosovo President calls on Turkish business to invest

Kosovo's president said on Tuesday that the Turkish community living in Kosovo made a significant contribution to the country's democratic development.

Kosovo's President Fatmir Sejdiu and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu attended the opening ceremony of Ankara University's Research Center on Southeast Europe.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sejdiu said that the Turkish community in Kosovo had a ministry in the central government, moreover, it had a role at every level of administration.

Sejdiu also said that Turkey could take part in the investments to be carried out in various sectors of Kosovo's economy.

"I invite Turkish investors to make investments and to do business in Kosovo without hesitation," he said.

Delivering a speech at the gathering, Davutoglu said that there could be no peace in Europe unless there was a peaceful atmosphere in the Balkans.

Noting that Turkey and the Balkans had a common history, Davutoglu said, "We will continue to work for the foundation of stability and development of economy in the Balkans."

Davutoglu also said that Ankara University's new research center on Southeast Europe would be an important focal point of the studies on the region.

Earlier, Turkish President Abdullah Gul hosted a dinner in honor of President Sejdiu at Cankaya Presidential Palace in Ankara on Tuesday.

Gul said Kosovo has been going through a historic period, noting that Kosovo's territorial integrity and stability meant tranquility and prosperity not only for Balkans but also for Europe.

"We are glad that Kosovo has become a key factor of peace and stability in Balkans short time after the country declared its independence," he said.

Sejdiu's visit would strengthen current ties and enhance cooperation opportunities between Turkey and Kosovo, Gul added.
