Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan participated at an Economist Round Table Meeting in Istanbul on Wednesday, speaking on political and economic developments in Turkey, European Union reforms, democracy and progress in fundamental rights and the rule of law.
"Economic reforms will be easily passed as much as the political ground allows," sources quoted Babacan as saying when addressing a behind-doors session on "Turkey's Place Within New Geopolitical Landscape."
Babacan also re-affirmed Turkey's commitment to stay on course toward the EU membership regardless of certain political issues such as Cyprus, relations with France and Germany.
Responding to a question on the closure case against the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, "We do not know when or in what direction the court will make its ruling but the important thing is legitimacy," Babacan said.
