Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi was to be received at the French parliament Tuesday on day two of his official visit to France, despite a boycott by opposition lawmakers protesting his human rights record.
Gaddafi was to meet parliamentary speaker Bernard Accoyer ahead of a lunchtime reception with National Assembly deputies. However Socialist members of the legislature as well as some from President Nicolas Sarkozy's Union for a Popular Movement, or UMP, said they wouldn't attend.
On Monday Gaddafi was welcomed by Sarkozy at the Elysee presidential palace, where he initialed trade deals worth more than EUR10 billion, including contracts for Airbus airliners, a nuclear-powered water desalination plant and construction projects.
