The government said Tuesday it will lodge a complaint against Greece after it allegedly blocked a Macedonian Air Transport plane from using its airspace.

Greek aviation authorities couldn't immediately be reached for comment, but the two neighbors have been arguing for many years over the name Macedonia, and that feud recently emerged during a North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit.

The Macedonian carrier said one of its flight headed to Egypt's Sharm el-Sheik resort was diverted to Istanbul, Turkey, on Monday after the plane wasn't granted permission to fly over Greece.

Government spokesman Ivica Bocevski said Macedonia would report the incident to European flight agencies.

"We ask that politics remains politics, and business remains business," Bocevski said. "Of course, Macedonia will use every means at its disposal to protect the Macedonian carrier."
