A 5.7 magnitude quake shook the Indonesian part of the New Guinea island, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on Wednesday.

The quake, initially reported as a magnitude 6.0, struck at 2:18 a.m. local time on Thursday (1718 GMT on Wednesday), 64 miles (103 km) west of the Indonesian town of Manokwari, in Irian Jaya. It was 41 miles (66 km deep), the USGS said.

There was no immediate report of damage or injuries, and the area is prone to earthquakes.
