A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck on Saturday at 7:44 a.m. Pacific time (1444 GMT) off the U.S. northern Pacific coast of Oregon, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake was centered 112 miles (180 km) west of Port Orford, Oregon, at a depth of 6.2 miles (10 km), the USGS said.

The USGS initially put the quake at 6.0 magnitude. There were no reports of a tsunami threat to the area.
