Malaysia celebrated the 50th anniversary of their country's independence on Friday.
Some 25,000 participants in colorful traditional dress sang and danced in high spirit during the celebrations procession in Merdeka (Independent) Square here.
The parade, opened by the 5 helicopters hanging with the national flag flying past the square, showcased the achievements and successes of the country during the past 50 years.
Thousands of spectators began flocking to the square as early as 6:00 a.m. to witness the parade made up of 100 contingents from the public and private sectors, including 12,570 marchers, 14 floats, 25 military vehicles and a breathtaking aerial display performed by 52 aircraft.
Delegates from Britain, Australia and New Zealand also participated the parade.
Malaysia, former British colony, achieved independence on Aug. 31, 1957.
