Malaysia said "it will ask the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) member states to mobilise efforts to help train and equip Palestinians trapped in Gaza with know-how in the new media so that their plight will be more known to the outside world."
Bernama news agency said "this proposal will be raised by Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek when he attends the two-day 8th Islamic Conference of Information Ministers (ICIM) under the auspices of the OIC in Rabat, Morocco beginning Tuesday."
Ahmad Shabery, who is leading a five-member delegation to the conference, told Bernama that the "idea behind this proposal was to enable the world to know what was really happening to the Palestinians as news in the international media could be Zionist-inspired."
He said "the effort to help Palestinians share information through new media platforms like the Internet (YouTube), short messaging system (SMS) or text, and blogs was one way where the 57-member OIC member states could combat disinformation by certain quarters."
Ahmad Shabery said "real-time stories, pictures and images from Palestinian "citizen journalists" could be documented and chronicled as evidence against their Israeli aggressors for war crimes."
The minister said "that he would also ask media organisations in OIC member states to help broadcast and print news and visuals from fellow publishers and broadcasters to make information sharing among them more meaningful."
