Maliki says PKK should not harm Turkey-Iraq relations

Iraq's Premier Nuri al Maliki said terrorist organisation PKK should not be allowed to harm relations between Turkey and Iraq.

Referring to their first meeting with Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Baghdad, Maliki said a strategic agreement between the two countries was signed during that visit.

Maliki said they came to Ankara to implement the said agreement.

"There is common will between the two countries to enhance the relations in several areas. That's what we are working for," said Maliki.

Maliki said they needed to focus on the reconstruction and development of the country noting that they were expecting investments and support from neighbouring countries.

He said they assessed possible areas of cooperation including political cooperation with Premier Erdogan during their meeting.

He said they agreed to give their ministers necessary orders to make haste and implement and increase the efficiency of the strategic agreement signed between the two countries.

Maliki said they hoped to further increase the trade volume between Turkey and Iraq.
