The president of Turkey hosted a luncheon for the heads of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of the state on Wednesday amid tension over recent developments.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul met heads of the legislative, executive and judicial branches at the Foreign Ministry Residence in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

"Participants think that strengthening democracy in Turkey, being loyal to rule of law and fundamental principles, and paying utmost attention to laws in procedures and implementation will make Turkey stronger, help overcome problems, and build confidence in the society," a statement of president's office said after the luncheon.

The statement said that the participants discussed many issues concerning the legislation, execution and judiciary in a sincere atmosphere by taking into consideration some important developments in the region and the world.

It also said that the president was planning to such meetings regularly from now on.

"During the luncheon, the necessity that everything should be within the framework of legal rules was voiced," Hasan Gerceker, the president of the Supreme Court of Appeals, told reporters after the luncheon.

Gerceker said that the luncheon was a scheduled event, and the president's office would release a statement to inform the public about the aim of the meeting and views expressed during the luncheon.

Hasan Gerceker also said that the participants discussed the problems of judiciary and the country.

Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan; Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan; Constitutional Court's chief judge Hasim Kilic; Council of State's president Mustafa Birden; State Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek; Turkish Court of Accounts' president Mehmet Damar; Arbitral Tribunal's president Ahmet Akyalcin; Military Court of Appeals' president Gen. Ahmet Alkis; Military Supreme Administrative Court's president Gen. Turgut Aribal attended the luncheon.
