Mitchell's postponed visit 'no connect' with Gaza debate: US envoy

U.S. ambassador in Ankara James Jeffrey said on Friday the postponement of such visit had no connection with the incident in Davos.

Commenting on USA's Special Envoy for Middle East George Mitchell's postponed visit to Turkey as well, Jeffrey said the postponement of such visit had no connection with the incident in Davos, adding that the decision to delay the visit was taken earlier.

He also said that the recent tension that rose at a panel discussion on Gaza held within the framework of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) was an "unfortunate" development.

After attending a conference in Belek town of the Mediterranean province of Antalya, Jeffrey replied to questions on the recent discussion between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Israeli President Shimon Peres at a panel discussion in Davos, as well as Erdogan's walking off the stage protesting the discussion's moderator.

Jeffrey said that discussing over Gaza or any other issue was quite normal, however, such discussions should be held in a respectful manner contributing to dialogue.
