Slovenia and Montenegro signed an agreement on defense cooperation between the two former Yugoslav countries, said reports reaching here from the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana.
The agreement is a "good basis for future cooperation" between the two countries and opens the possibilities to further upgrade the good relations in the field of defense, Slovenian Defense Minister Karl Erjavec and his Montenegrin counterpart Boro Vucinic said after signing the agreement.
The pair agreed that the Western Balkan region including Montenegro should be given EU and NATO prospects, the Slovenian news agency STA reported.
Vucinic said that Slovenia's EU and NATO accession presented a good role model, and expressed the wish that Montenegro would take the same path.
"Through cooperation we can obtain a lot of knowledge and experience, which will help us on the way to European and Atlantic organizations," he said.
