The move is aimed at improving the image of Islam and Muslims, especially after the violent protests that broke out in some countries following the publication of cartoons satirizing Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

The program will start this weekend in several mosques in metro Detroit, that will hold public lectures and panel discussions on the life of the Prophet (PBUH), said Dawud Walid, head of the Michigan branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

When people of different backgrounds learn about each other on a human level as well as understanding others' beliefs, the prospect of hatred is eliminated and the seeds of coexistence and cooperation can grow, Walid said at the Muslim Center of Detroit.

The meeting was attended by top Muslim leaders from Dearborn, Detroit, Bloomfield Hills, Canton, and Dearborn Heights.
