The all-party parliamentary Defence Committee announced Friday that it was launching a new inquiry into UK operations in Iraq.
The inquiry will consider the political and security situation in Iraq, progress in implementing security sector reform, including development of the Iraqi army and police, and prospects for further transition to Provincial Iraqi Control, the group of MPs said.
"It is also examining the future of UK Forces in Iraq and is considering equipment issues facing troops in theatre," the announcement said.
The new inquiry comes as a cross-party commission last month started a fundamental review of the British government's policy in Iraq after Prime Minister Tony Blair steps down from power on June 27.
