Newly-elected MP Erdogan Yanish, representing the Manisa district, tendered his resignation from the opposition Republican Party (CHP) Friday arguing he had serious arguments with the party leadership.

The MP, who was speaking in a press conference, said his dispute with party leader Deniz Baikal prompted him to resign with the result that his party lost one seat in parliament and now counts 98 seats.

The distribution of powers within the parliament is now as follows: The ruling Justice and Development Party (341 seats), Republican Party (98 seats), Nationalist Movement (70 seats), Democratic Society Party (20 seats), Democratic Left Party (13 seats), and Independents (five seats).
