Obama said an analysis of his stimulus proposals shows that between 3 million and 4 million U.S. jobs could be saved or created by 2010.
President-elect Barack Obama said on Saturday an analysis of his stimulus proposals shows that between 3 million and 4 million U.S. jobs could be saved or created by 2010, nearly 90 percent of them in the private sector.
In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama said his recovery and reinvestment plan would create nearly 500,000 jobs by investing in clean energy, by committing to double the production of alternative energy in the next three years and by improving the energy efficiency of 2 million American homes.
He said the report showed nearly 400,000 more people would be put to work repairing the country's infrastructure including crumbling roads, bridges and schools.
Obama said his plan -- which is aimed at lifting the United States out of a year-long recession -- also includes extensions of unemployment insurance and health care coverage; a $1,000 tax cut for 95 percent of working families; and assistance to help states avoid harmful budget cuts in essential services like police, fire, education and health care.
