Efforts were underway to repair a west-bound pipeline which carried Azerbaijani oil to European markets after a fire damaged part of the Turkish section of the conduit, pipeline officials said Monday.
The blaze, which hit the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline earlier in August near Refahiye in Erzincan province, disrupted oil flow to Turkey's Mediterranean port of Ceyhan.
Experts were conducting damage assessment after the fire extinguished itself last Monday.
"Intensive repair work is underway and the oil flow will resume in a few days if there are no other failure in the pipeline," said Hilmi Guler, Turkey's energy minister.
The 1,768-kilometer BTC pipeline connects the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oil field in the Caspian Sea over Georgia to Turkey's Mediterranean port of Ceyhan.
