One dead in fuel tank fire on Gaza border

An Egyptian man was killed and two men were injured on Friday in a fire which broke out in a fuel tank at the Egyptian end of a pipeline used for bringing basic supplies to the Gaza Strip, police sources said, according to Reuters.

They named the man as 24-year-old Mohamed Awad Eissa el-Shaer and said he died in hospital in the border town of Rafah with burns on 100 percent of his body.

The fuel tank, in a room in a house near the border, held about 1,500 litres (330 gallons) of diesel fuel for delivery to Gaza through a plastic pipeline underground, they said.

1.5 million Gazans live under heavy Israel siege since 2007 and Egypt still insists on not to opening the only Gaza border crossing in a move condemned by Muslims around the world in protests, leaving Gazans desperate to digging tunnels underground and risking their lives since 2007.
