One Egyptian was killed on Monday in a row during the vote in the renewal elections for one-half of the Shura Council (Consultative Council), the Egyptian media said.

One Egyptian was killed on Monday in a row during the vote in the renewal elections for one-half of the Shura Council (Consultative Council), the Egyptian media said.

The man was killed in an exchange of gun fire between the supporters of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) and an independent candidate in Al-Sharqiya governorate, about 100 km northeast of Cairo.

The killer was arrested and subjected to interrogations.

Meanwhile, President Hosni Mubarak cast his vote in a poll station in the posh district of Helipolis in the first parliamentary elections following constitutional amendments in the country.

Poll stations will close at 7 p.m. local time
