A Syrian, suspected of aiding terrorists and wanted by the United States, was arrested in Madrid, the Spanish Interior Ministry said on Friday.
The suspect, Monzer al-Kassar, was arrested at the Madrid airport after arriving on a flight from Malaga in southern Spain, the ministry said.
He is then to be taken to the southern city of Marbella, where he has lived for a number of years, to be present during a search of his home.
He is charged with providing aid to a terrorist organization, killing U.S. citizens and officials, acquiring anti-aircraft missiles and money laundering, the ministry said.
The arrest comes a few days after a visit to Spain by US Secretary of State Condoolezza Rice, and one day after Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mouallemmet met in Madrid with his Spanish counterpart Miguel Angel Moratinos.
